Labor Day Weekend at Pinewoods Camp

September 5 - 8, 2009

Staff

This year's dance callers/teachers will be the stellar Linda Leslie (American dances) and the world-renowned Marcie Van Cleave (English and international). Our fabulous musicians for 2009 include Eric Buddington, Ken Allen, Susan Janssen, Eric Martin, Vince O'Donnell, Tony Pisano, Patrick Yacono, Doug Creighton, Ray Rosenstock, Barbara Pixton and John Dexter. Activities also include a two-day intensive Morris dance workshop and international dance and music workshops presented by the Folk Arts Center of New England.

In addition, Jackson Gillman is planning exciting activities for children of all ages.

Schedule

Camp opens at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday; the session ends with breakfast on Tuesday morning. No visitors or part-time campers are permitted.

Daytime Workshops

Structured workshops in English, American, Morris and international dancing will be run by our staff. Children's workshops are scheduled for part of the day so that parents can dance while children are involved in their own activities. Labor Day Weekend also features Camper-led workshops scheduled throughout the day. Storytelling, music and song sessions, nature walks, and games, are just a few examples of past camper-led activities. There are life guarded swims scheduled each day, dances each evening, and the traditional Monday Mad Hatter Tea Party. Of course, there's also time for canoeing, jamming, volley ball, cards, napping, reading, and just plain hanging out with friends.

Evening Dances

Our talented staff will lead a mix of English and American dances. Prior dance experience is not necessary. Bring clean shoes that you use only for dancing to keep the dance floors in good shape. Sunday night is the famous theme dance.
