| "What a charming amusement for young people this is, Mr. Darcy! There is nothing like dancing after all. I consider it as one of the first refinements of polished societies."
"Certainly, sir; and it has the advantage also of being in vogue amongst the less polished societies of the world. Every savage can dance."

Whether you consider yourself a savage or from polished society, English country dancing welcomes you! CDS Boston Centre offers many different regular series and special events - you're sure to find something to love, whether you're an experienced dancer or have just seen Pride & Prejudice and want to learn how to dance as well as Darcy and Elizabeth!
Harvard Square Friday Beginners' Series This series is aimed at attacting new dancers to English dancing. The dance is held in Harvard Square on 2nd and 4th Fridays, and dancers often go out to Herrell's for conversation and ice cream after the dance. Third Friday Hot Foot English Country Social This is a new series on third Fridays at Springstep in Medford Square, featuring the house band English Country Boogie Band playing with guest bands. The series is a mixture of traditional and modern English dances along with the guest band's speciality (Irish, Scottish, ceilidh...), in a relaxed setting where dances are learned by demonstration. Bare Necessities and Friends' Wednesday Evenings The Wednesday series dances in Arlington Heights are for all dancers, from new to experienced, and feature something for everyone.
Summer 2009 Wednesday Dance Parties and Ice Cream Socials CDS Boston Centre is once again hosting english country dance parties this summer from July 8 through to August 19, 2009. This year we will be back dancing in First Unitarian Society of Newton, in a beautiful spacious church hall with a lovely wood dance floor and air conditioning. First Friday Experienced Series Experienced dancers are invited to join us in Brookline for an evening of challenging dances, or familiar dances done with less (or no) teaching. Most dances are taught, but dancers are expected to be familiar with the common figures such as siding, heys, figure-of-eight, etc. Dancers meet for dinner before the dance at a nearby restaurant.
Special Events CDS Boston Centre offers many special dances throughout the year, in addition to the regular series described on this page, such as the Fall Favorites dance party in September, the Gala Holiday Party on the first Saturday of the New Year, a mid-winter dance celebration featuring a special guest caller, the English-Scottish dance party in early February, the Boston Playford Ball on the Saturday after the first Friday in March, and more.
