Judy Erickson
Leader & choreographer of Orion Sword

Take Five: (for experienced longsword and rapper dancers) — Orion's sword dance to the Paul Desmond jazz tune will have its secrets revealed. Be prepared to have steam come out your ears.

Beginning Longsword: A sampling of figures in a stepped style. Learn how letting the swords drive the dancing makes longsword as exciting as rapper. Open to all.

Tony Barrand
Morris elder and song Guru

Sword Songs: This session will cover the different kinds of songs associated with sword dances.

Dance on Video: Explore the various longsword, rapper and European sword dances that are available online in Dr. Barrand's Web-based archive, and learn how to use the site's search facility.

Steve Corrsin
Author of Sword Dancing In Europe

This dance workshop examines European continental material as sources of material for North American dancers. We will focus on the "Pod Sable" sword dance of Strani, in the Czech Republic.

This talk surveys the available sword dance descriptions which were published in many European countries. Besides actual descriptions, sources include music, illustrations, and political commentary.

Rhett Krause
Longtime betty for Longwood rapper

Sword Lock Workshop: There are five locks commonly used in longsword and rapper performances — and at least as many that are rarely, if ever, seen. In this class, which will utilize rapper swords and longswords for 5, 6 and 8 dancers, we will discuss how to design and create new locks.

Rapper Fooling Workshop: We will look at several classic opportunities for a Betty to interact with a set of five dancers. Much of the workshop will be on figures for six dancers. These are for times when the Betty is dancing in the set, and also can be used for full six-person rapper dances.

Great Meadows Morris & Sword
Tom Kruskal's prestigious rapper academy for teens.

Beginning Rapper: Come one and all, and try rapper - that fast paced exciting dance for all ages. Members of Great Meadows will dance in with every set to ensure a good time for all.

Advanced Rapper: Great Meadows will share with you some of their complicated figures that have amazed audiences at home and abroad.

Frank Attanasio
Long time Morris & sword dancer

Papa Stour: sword dance from the Shetland Islands. Frank's version is influenced by Jim Morrison and Roy Dommett who visited and collected remnants of this old dance. We will explore the more distinctive figures of the dance, attempting to learn as much of the dance as time allows.
